Copper Monster

PHOTOGRAPHER’S JOURNAL: Through his working life, the Copper Monster lived here at the American Brass tube mill in Waterbury. Installed at the beginning of the 20th century, he spent his life stretching cold metal tubes and served through two world wars. This photo was taken in December of 2014, after most of the factory had been either scrapped or sent to Mexico.

It blows my mind that this place still exists like this, Ted, and wasn't not only scrapped for metal a long time ago but totally dismantled/imploded. I guess it was waiting for you to photograph it!

It has been an active and working tube mill for more than a century until Dec, 2013. Before the mill was shot down, Copper Monster was making metal tube for use in atomic submarines.
