GALEN ROWELL: "One of the biggest mistakes a photographer can make is to look at the real world and cling to the vain hope that next time his film will somehow bear a closer resemblance to it...If we limit our vision to the real world, we will forever be fighting on the minus side of things, working only too make our photographs equal to what we see out there, but no better."
PHOTOGRAPHER'S JOURNAL: The previous photos were from March of 2008. Here is the same hillside a week ago in the very late afternoon. The hilltop above was still green. By this week autumn color had reached the hilltop and the tree behind the house was nearly bare. The clouds roll on.

Waller Woods in October is not monochromatic. The winter view of pastels with cloud cover is interesting, but I'm glad to see the palette of autumn reflected in this photo. The wind and rain we are currently experiencing may draw to the end the crazy leaf peepers. By Nov. 1 we'll be blowing and bagging the residue. Ah New England!
Leaces have survived last night's gusts and rain, but this can't last long. Glad you like the autumn shot.
Hi Ted! Don't see much of those colours around here, so it's always a great pleasure to enjoy your pictures! And the quote is excellent!!
Blogtrotter is now at Santa’s Homeland, an anticipated gift for you before Christmas ;) Enjoy and have a great week!
More fall colors to come. Let's not rush Christmas, but I will enjoy visiting your blog to see what you;re up to and all your awards.
I love this shot, Ted. The bare trees are so beautiful against the coloured leaves. What incredible light, too!
Thank you for posting it.
Hi Arthur. Thanks for visiting and posting. The light was very uncertain that afternoon, but I managed to snag a bit of sun in the midst of change, and I think it adds to the movement of the image.
