Main Street Time Lapse, Ansonia

PHOTOGRAPHER’S JOURNAL: The first photo was easy to take at 7:15, on Sunday evening, 2011. The last, taken last Sunday evening when I thought there would be few cars, put me in the path of headlights. It’s good to see the changes.

HA! It's like a 5-year time-lapse, Ted. I love it. It's also like you zoomed in and then out over the process. :)

Perhaps less a matter of zooming in and out as of varying degrees if risk-taking while getting the picture, and deciding on the third try that I needed to get the whole thing with my lens set at a super-wide 11mm. To capture Main Street disappearing I had to set my tripod in the middle of a lane of traffic, get all into adjustment, while I caught a series of 4 or 5 exposures to capture the full range of tonalities.

There were times when all lanes would halt, and a few times when nobody was on the road, but as the magic hour neared when the sky and land near equal tonalities, and the window lights and all pop out, there was nothing to do but stand in the lane and give a friendly wave to those who avoided me. Even so, one man insisted on using the lane I had blocked, though the other lane was free. He honked, and I moved my gear and started over.
