It took another 34 years for Pizarro to reach Pachacuti's empiire ruled by Pachacuti's grandson, Huayna Capac. The year was 1526, the emperor was young, his empire was thriving. Three years later when Pizarro returned to begin the process of claiming Huayna Capac's land and subjects for Spain, he found Huayna Capac dead, killed by smallpox, a disease unknown here before Columbus.
